Our Activities

Our goal is to help raise standards in basic skills. We aim to do this through discrete activities, working with partners where appropriate. Our current activities are:

Better Teaching Partnership

The Better Teaching Partnership is designed to provide advice and support to help improve the quality of adult basic skills provision.

Financial Literacy

This project works to improve financial literacy across all sectors.

Quality Mark

The Quality Mark is about recognising minimum standards in teaching literacy and numeracy. It provides a framework whereby schools can work to raise the standards of basic skills. The Quality Mark is a nationally recognised symbol of good practice in the teaching of basic skills.

Army

The Army's basic skills initiative is being developed by the Army in partnership with the Basic Skills Agency.

Young Parents

This project looks to raise expectations of young parents, to improve their basic skills and allow them to progress succesfully in education and the world of work.

Learning with Grandparents

'Learning with Grandparents' shows schools how they can work with grandparents to help young children (aged 5-11) learn the basic skills of literacy, language and numeracy in an informal, fun way.

Many Right Answers

Learning in mathematics through speaking and listening.

The Basic Skills Agency at NIACE is committed to finding, developing and disseminating good practice in literacy, language and numeracy.
