Better Teaching Partnership
What is the Better Teaching Partnership?
The Better Teaching Partnership is one of our most successful Post 16 programmes designed to provide advice and support to help improve the quality of adult basic skills provision. A wide range of organisations have benefitted from the programme including colleges; LEA adult and community education services; major voluntary and community providers; prisons and probation services; adult training organisations, and workplace providers.
The Better Teaching Partnership has been developed in close collaboration with the DfES and is a key part of the Government`s drive to raise the standards of literacy, language and numeracy of adults in England.
The objectives of the Partnership is to help providers:
- Improve the quality of basic skills teaching
- Develop their quality assurance systems by building on the Raising Standards Guides and the guidance contained in the Common Inspection Framework
Through the work of the Better Teaching Partnership we have developed a suite of quality improvement materials which are now available for sale: These materials have a sharp focus on improving teaching and learning in literacy, language and numeracy, and they are designed to address the issues most commonly raised by Ofsted inspectors in their reports on literacy, language and numeracy provision.
The Tools for Managers enable staff who manage, coordinate, or quality assure literacy, language numeracy provision in large or small organisations to audit their provision against detailed criteria drawn from the Common Inspection Framework. These tools also help them to take a consistent approach to the observation of teaching and learning and plan effective actions to address identified areas of weaknesses.
The Tools for Staff Development consist of 5 modules of CPD materials designed to improve classroom practice in the areas most commonly criticised by Ofsted inspectors in their reports on literacy, language and numeracy provision.
The Tools for Teachers are designed to help teachers put into practice in their classroom the principles communicated in the CPD materials. The first of these, a set of Spelling Posters is already available and others are in development.
